Chocolate, water pipes and PLoS Medicine – report from the Cambridge Humanitarian Centre

A couple of days ago I attended the launch of a report – Cambridge and International development – published by the Humanitarian Centre,  a Cambridge-based organisation. The reports uses a number of case scenarios to show how Cambridge organisations are promoting innovation in International Development – a prime example being the development of water pipes that won’t crack in earthquakes.

PLoS Medicine is cited as an example of of innovation in publishing; other examples are of process and product innovation. I think it’s probably the first time we’ve been mentioned on the same page as a company that makes chocolate (you’ll have to read the report to see why), but it does show what a diverse group of companies Cambridge has and how far reaching and innovative they are. The full report is available here.
