This Week in PLoS Medicine: Torture at Guantánamo Bay; MSF in Haiti

April closes in PLoS Medicine with an editorial relating to a new article on a GTMO case study, and a reflection on the 2010 disaster in Haiti from Médecins sans Frontières.

The PLoS Medicine editors argue that the publication of new evidence of the complicity of medical personnel in torture at Guantánamo Bay (GTMO) should bolster calls for further investigation into the role of doctors at the prison.

Vincent Iacopino and Stephen Xenakis review case records of nine individuals imprisoned at Guantánamo Bay that indicate medical personnel assigned to the Department of Defense neglected and/or concealed medical evidence of torture.

Kathryn Chu and colleagues describe the experiences of Médecins sans Frontières after the 2010 Haiti earthquake, and discuss how to improve delivery of surgery in humanitarian disasters.
