Three new articles published this week in PLoS Medicine:

In a cost-effectiveness study, Bruce R Schackman and colleagues compare early versus standard antiretroviral treatment (ART) for HIV in Haiti and reveal that the new WHO guidelines for early ART initiation can be cost-effective in resource-poor settings.

Kimmo Herttua and colleagues show that living alone is associated with a substantially increased risk of alcohol-related mortality, irrespective of gender, socioeconomic status, or cause of death, and that this effect was exacerbated after a price reduction in alcohol in 2004.

Wietse Tol and colleagues lay out a consensus-based research agenda for mental health and psychosocial support in humanitarian settings.
