Four new articles published this week in PLoS Medicine, including a Perspective on a new Research Article.

To read about the article on population burden of injuries in the UK by Ronan Lyons and colleagues, visit our previous media release blog post.

An Pan and colleagues examined data from two Nurses’ Health Studies and found that extended periods of rotating night shift work were associated with a modestly increased risk of type 2 diabetes, partly mediated through body weight. The research article is discussed in a Perspective article by Mika Kivimäki and colleagues.

Paul Newton and colleagues argue that public health, and not intellectual property or trade issues, should be the prime consideration in defining and combating counterfeit medicines, and that the World Health Organization (WHO) should take a more prominent role.
