This Week in PLoS Medicine: Pediatrics in rural Kenya; Coronary heart disease; Perinatal care in Mumbai

Three new research articles published this week in PLoS Medicine, along with the close of our series on Big Food.

A hospital-based surveillance study by Ciara O’Reilly and colleagues describes the risk factors for death amongst children who have been hospitalized with diarrhea in rural Kenya.

Kay-Tee Khaw and colleagues report associations between plasma concentrations of saturated phospholipid fatty acids and the risk of coronary heart disease, and an inverse association between omega-6 polyunsaturated phospholipid fatty acids and risk of coronary heart disease.

David Osrin and colleagues report findings from their cluster-randomized trial in Mumbai slums that evaluated whether facilitator-supported women’s groups improved perinatal outcomes.
