This Week in PLOS Medicine: RUSF supplement for malnutrition; Statins for venous thrombotic events

This week, PLOS Medicine publishes two new Research Articles with associated Perspectives.

Lieven Huybregts and colleagues investigate how supplementing a general food distribution with a fortified lipid-based spread during a seasonal hunger gap in Chad affects anthropometric and morbidity outcomes for children aged 6 to 36 months.

Kathryn Dewey and Mary Arimond discuss new research that assesses the effect of blanket provision of ready-to-use supplementary food to children at high risk of malnutrition in Chad, and highlight some of the challenges of investigating the efficacy of supplementary foods for malnourished children.

A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by Kazem Rahimi and colleagues re-evaluates the hypothesis, generated by other studies, that statins may reduce the risk of venous thrombotic events, and find that the previous findings are unsupported.

Frits Rosendaal comments on new findings from a meta-analysis conducted by Kazem Rahimi and colleagues, evaluating whether statins can prevent venous thromboembolism.
