This Week in PLOS Medicine: PREP & HIV in Peru; Global burden of maternal complications

Two new articles published this week in PLOS Medicine, along with an update to our Maternal Health Task Force (MHTF)-PLoS Collection on Maternal Health.

Gabriela Gomez and colleagues developed a mathematical model of the HIV epidemic among men who have sex with men and transwomen in Lima, Peru to explore whether HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis could be a cost-effective addition to existing HIV prevention strategies.

Michael Gravett and colleagues review the burden of pregnancy-related infections, especially in low- and middle-income countries, and offer suggestions for a more effective intervention strategy.
