Hope in times of pain: Recording of World Mental Health Day panel discussion 2025

October 10th was World Mental Health Day, for which the theme was ‘Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies’. PLOS Mental Health co-hosted a panel discussion with University College London (UCL) in honor of this day and we are now pleased to share the recording. Our Executive Editor, Dr Karli Montague-Cardoso and our co-EiC, Professor Rochelle Burgess (UCL) were joined by three inspirational speakers: Dr Audrey McMahon (International Committee of the Red Cross, Gaza), Professor Ahmed Hankir (Western University, Ontario), and Dr Aseel Hamid (UCL).

***Trigger Warning: The recording includes the discussion of topics that some may find uncomfortable or distressing. Please engage with the content at your own discretion***

All of the perspectives expressed in the discussion are solely those of the person expressing them. They do not represent the perspectives of the other panelists, their affiliated organizations, PLOS Mental Health, PLOS and any of its affiliated editors or employees, or UCL.
