This Week in PLoS Medicine: Mapping anemia risk; Flu & invasive pneumococcal disease; Migration & Health

This week week, four new articles were published in PLoS Medicine, including the continuation of our Migration and Health series.

Ricardo Soares Magalhães and colleagues used national cross-sectional household-based demographic health surveys to map the distribution of anemia risk in preschool children in Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Mali.

Abdisalan Noor discusses new research in by Soares Magalhães and colleagues that used model-based geostatistics to investigate the risks of anemia among preschool-aged children in West Africa that were attributable to malnutrition, malaria, and helminth infections.

Using a combination of modeling and statistical analyses, David Fisman and colleagues show that influenza likely influences the incidence of invasive pneumococcal disease by enhancing risk of invasion in colonized individuals.

In the fourth article in a six-part PLoS Medicine series on Migration & Health, Joan Benach and colleagues discuss the specific health risks and policy needs associated with migration in destination countries, especially for low-skilled and illegal migrant workers.
